Can You Epoxy an Outdoor Patio or Pool Deck?
Standard epoxy yellows in sunlight, so it is the wrong coating for a patio or a pool deck. Outdoor concrete needs a flexible polyurea base coat under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat.

What an outdoor patio coating costs
One 2.5 gal kit of B-933 ($209.99) covers 250 to 400 sq ft. One 2 gal kit of T-444X ($309.99) covers 240 to 400 sq ft. So about $520 in coatings covers a patio of roughly 250 sq ft. Rough concrete uses more. Call (877) 703-7699 and we will size it for your slab.
Prep for outdoor concrete
- Profile. Diamond grind or shot blast the concrete.
- Contamination. Harsh chemicals and grease from cooking have to be removed completely, or the coating will not bond.
- Moisture. A slab that gives off more than 3 lb of moisture vapor per 1,000 sq ft in 24 hours needs a vapor barrier primer first.
- Weather. Coat when it is between 50 and 90°F and the surface is at least 5°F above the dew point. Pick a dry stretch. The floor should stay dry until it has cured.
Cure times
Topcoat the base coat after 3 to 6 hours. Walk on the floor 24 hours after the topcoat. Full cure takes 2 to 7 days.
Pool decks and walkways need grip
A clear topcoat is slick when wet. On any surface people walk on, stir A-HWS anti-slip into the topcoat.

Can I use a garage epoxy kit outside?
Use the polyurea and polyaspartic system above. Epoxy base coats are made for indoor floors.
What colors can I get?
The base coat comes in gray, beige or black, under a clear topcoat. Pigment packs are available for the topcoat.
