Quartz Epoxy Flooring: A Non-Slip Floor for Wet Areas
A quartz floor is the non-slip choice for rooms that get wet. Colored quartz is broadcast into epoxy in two layers and sealed under a clear topcoat. The result is an even, textured surface that hides the slab underneath.
Where quartz epoxy flooring works best
Locker rooms, restrooms, showers, pool decks, kennels and labs. Anywhere the floor gets wet and has to stay non-slip.
The quartz epoxy flooring system
| Layer | Product | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Base coat | P-707LVP High Build Epoxy Primer, pigmented | 160 sq ft per gallon |
| 2. First broadcast | Colored quartz, thrown into the wet base coat | Until the floor will not take any more |
| 3. Mid coat | C-671 Clear Epoxy | 100 sq ft per gallon |
| 4. Second broadcast | Colored quartz, thrown into the wet mid coat | Until the floor will not take any more |
| 5. Topcoat | T-444X Polyaspartic, clear and UV-stable | 120 sq ft per gallon |
Why two broadcasts
A double broadcast gives a more even and smoother surface. It hides the base coat and conceals what is under the coating.
How a quartz floor goes down
- Day 1. Grind the concrete and vacuum. Roll the base coat and broadcast quartz into it while it is wet.
- Day 2. Sweep off the loose quartz. Roll the mid coat and broadcast again.
- Day 3. Sweep again and roll the topcoat.
Walk on the floor 24 hours after the topcoat. Full cure takes 2 to 7 days. Coat when the slab and the air are between 60 and 90°F.
What quartz epoxy flooring costs
The three coatings come to about $2.80 per sq ft at the coverage above, before quartz and labor.
Quartz or full flake?
Full flake is the usual choice for garages and basements. Quartz is the choice for floors that are wet most of the day. See full flake epoxy floor kits.
