How Much Does It Cost to Epoxy a Garage Floor?
It costs $585 to $1,040 in materials to epoxy a one- or two-car garage floor yourself in a solid color with a topcoat and tools, $905 to $1,695 for a full flake floor, and $6 to $9 per square foot to have an installer do it. The exact number depends on the size of the floor, the finish, the condition of the slab and who does the work. The prices below are current garage floor epoxy kit prices, and most people start with the Garage Pro System.
Cost to epoxy a garage floor, by size and finish

Why the per square foot cost ranges from $0.75 to $2.60
- Topcoat or not. The Starter kit is the same 100% solids base coat as the Pro at about half the price, with no topcoat and only a mix wand and squeegee. The topcoat is what resists hot tires, scratches and UV. Out of the sun, in a shed or a dark basement, the Starter is a real floor. In a garage with a door that opens to daylight, buy the Pro.
- Finish. Solid color is one base coat and one topcoat. Full flake adds 40 lb of flake per bay and a polyaspartic clear instead of polyurethane. Metallic adds a black ground coat and pigment. Flake and metallic cost about a dollar a foot more than solid color.
- Size. The tool kit is a fixed cost, so one-car floors cost more per foot than two- and three-car floors.
- Chemistry. The One-Day polyaspartic kit costs more than Pro epoxy in solid color ($714.99 against $584.99 for one car) and less in full flake, because the polyurea base is sold in smaller kits than the epoxy. See epoxy vs polyaspartic.
Costs that are not in the kit
| Item | Who needs it | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Grinder rental | Everyone. Grinding is what makes the floor stick. | Roughly $100 to $200 a day plus diamond wheel wear at a tool rental counter |
| Moisture vapor primer | Slabs that fail the plastic sheet test; most basements, few garages | $194.99 per 1.5 gal kit, about 140 sq ft; $389.99 for 3 gal |
| Crack filler | Any cracked slab | $99.99 for the 1 gal kit that does a typical 2-car garage |
| Spall repair | Chips, pop-outs, broken edges | $49.99 small kit, $69.99 large |
| Joint sealant | If you want the saw cuts filled for a seamless floor | $59.99 per tube, about 4 tubes for a 2-car garage |
| Oil stop primer | Oil stains that come back after degreasing | Spot use; one kit covers 200 to 320 sq ft of stains |
| Degreaser, tape, plastic sheet, dust mask | Everyone | $30 to $50 |
A realistic all-in DIY budget for a 2-car garage: $1,040 for the Pro solid color kit, $150 for a grinder day, $100 for crack filler if the slab needs it. Call it $1,300, or about $1.85 per sq ft for a 700 sq ft floor. Full flake, about $1,950.
Cost to have a garage floor epoxied by an installer
Installers in our network charge $6 to $9 per sq ft for a full flake or solid color floor with a topcoat, which puts a 2-car garage at $3,000 to $5,500 and a 3-car at $4,500 to $8,000. That price covers grinding, repairs, materials, two or three days of a two-person crew and usually a workmanship warranty. Quotes go up for:
- Removing an old coating or paint
- A damp slab that needs moisture primer
- Heavy repairs, spalled edges, pitted concrete
- Small floors, where the crew's day rate is spread over fewer feet
- Metallic finishes, which take more skill and time
- Stairs, aprons, upturns at the walls
If a quote comes in under $4 per sq ft, ask what thickness is going down and whether the slab is being ground or just etched. Thin, etched floors are the ones that peel in a year. The materials for a proper floor alone are $1.50 to $2.60 per sq ft, as the table above shows.

Cost to epoxy other floors
- Basement. The Basement & Indoor Pro System is $679.99 for up to 350 sq ft and $1,224.99 for up to 700 in solid color, with a matte low-odor topcoat; flake and metallic match the garage prices. Basements fail the moisture test more often, so budget for primer. See the basement floor epoxy guide.
- Shop or warehouse. The Commercial Pro System is $2,274.99 for up to 2,000 sq ft and $5,434.99 for up to 5,000 in solid color with a forklift-rated urethane topcoat, about $1.10 per sq ft. See commercial epoxy flooring cost per square foot.
- Commercial kitchen. Urethane cement, about $8.50 per sq ft in coatings, installer applied. See commercial kitchen flooring.
- Countertops and furniture. C-403WF countertop epoxy, priced per kit.
How epoxy compares with other garage floor options
- Garage floor paint (one-part latex or "epoxy paint"): $50 to $150 for a 2-car garage, peels under hot tires within a year or two. Cheapest to buy, most expensive per year.
- Big-box 2-part epoxy kits: $150 to $400 for a 2-car garage, 2 to 4 mils thick, usually no real topcoat. Lasts a few years. The comparison is in pro kits vs big-box kits.
- Pro-grade epoxy kit (this page): $1,040 to $1,695 for a 2-car garage at 14 mils with a topcoat. Many years. See how long a garage floor coating lasts.
- Interlocking tiles: $2 to $4 per sq ft, $1,400 to $2,800 for a 2-car garage. Water and dirt get under them.
- Installed polyaspartic or epoxy: $6 to $9 per sq ft.
Epoxy floor cost FAQ
How much does it cost to epoxy a 2-car garage?
$1,039.99 for the Garage Pro kit in solid color, $1,694.99 in full flake, plus about $150 of grinder rental and any repairs the slab needs. Installed, $3,000 to $5,500.
How much does it cost to epoxy a 400 sq ft garage?
400 sq ft is just over the 1-car kit's 350 sq ft limit, so it takes the 2-car kit: $1,039.99 solid or $1,694.99 flake. You will have material left over, which is better than running out mid-floor.
Is it cheaper to epoxy a floor yourself?
Yes, by roughly $2,000 to $4,000 on a 2-car garage. Materials are about a third of an installed price. The rest is grinding, labor and the installer's margin.
Why is epoxy flooring so expensive compared with paint?
Thickness. A pro epoxy floor is 14 mils of 100% solids resin plus a topcoat, four to seven times the film of a painted floor, and resin is priced by the gallon. You are buying the material that stays on the floor.
Does the price include tools?
Pro, One-Day, Basement and Commercial kits include the application tool kit: 18 inch roller frame and two covers, notched squeegee, mix wand, chip brush, spiked shoes, bucket, gloves and safety glasses. The Starter kit includes a mix wand and a squeegee. A grinder is rented.
Is there a cheaper way to get a flake floor?
Flake over the Starter base coat with no clear coat is not a floor we sell, because flake with nothing over it sheds. The One-Day full flake kit is the lowest-priced complete flake floor at $839.99 for one car.
