How to Clean an Epoxy Floor
A coated floor is easy to keep clean. It needs a broom, a mop and a mild cleaner.
Routine cleaning
- Sweep or dust mop to pick up grit. Grit under tires and shoes is what scratches a floor.
- Mop with warm water and a mild cleaner.
- Rinse with clean water if the cleaner leaves a film.
Spills and stains
- Wipe up oil, fuel and chemicals soon after they spill.
- For tire marks and stuck-on dirt, use a soft brush with the same mild cleaner.
- In winter, rinse off road salt.
What to avoid
- Soap-based cleaners. They leave a film that dulls the floor and makes it slick.
- Acidic cleaners, such as vinegar or citrus, used often. They dull the gloss over time.
- Steel wool and stiff wire brushes.
Keeping the floor looking new
A topcoat takes the wear, so the color underneath stays intact. If the floor has no topcoat, it scratches sooner and ambers in sunlight. See can I put a clear coat over epoxy?
