How Long Do Epoxy Coatings Last?
A properly installed epoxy floor can last many years, often well over a decade in a home garage. How long yours lasts depends mostly on three things:
- Prep. Most coating failures are bond failures. A floor coated over a diamond-ground, clean, dry slab holds up. One coated over dust or old sealer can peel within a year.
- Film thickness. A 100% solids base coat like B-707 builds far more protection per coat than a thin water-based paint.
- A topcoat. A clear topcoat takes the wear so the base coat does not. It is also what keeps the color from ambering in sunlight.
Heavy equipment, dragged steel and harsh chemicals shorten the life of any floor. For those, step up to a high wear topcoat or our Commercial Pro System.
