Do I Need to Patch Cracked Concrete Before Applying an Epoxy Coating?
Yes. A coating follows the surface under it. Cracks, holes and chipped edges will show through, and loose edges can break and take the coating with them.
Match the repair to the damage
- Hairline and structural cracks: R-818 Epoxy Crack Filler. It bonds to the concrete and cures hard, so it will not shrink back.
- Spalls, pits and chipped areas: R-343 Concrete Quick Fix to rebuild the surface flush.
- Deep holes and larger repairs: R-110 Epoxy Mortar.
- Control joints that move: R-830 Flexible Joint Sealant. A rigid filler in a moving joint will crack again.
Skip powdered cement patch mixes under an epoxy floor. They tend to crumble and lose their bond once the coating goes on top.
