Do I Need to Remove Oil and Grease Stains Before Applying Epoxy?
Yes. Epoxy bonds to clean, open concrete. Oil and grease sit in the pores and stop the coating from gripping, which leads to peeling right where the stain was.
How to deal with oil stains
- Degrease. Scrub the stained areas with a concrete degreaser and rinse. Repeat until the water no longer beads on the spot.
- Profile the concrete. Diamond grind and vacuum the whole floor. This opens the surface so the coating can bond.
- Seal what is left. Older stains often keep leaching oil back up. Once the floor is clean and fully dry, apply P-820 Oil Stop Primer over the stained areas before your base coat.
