What Does 100% Solids Epoxy Mean?
"Solids" is the part of a coating that is still on the floor after it cures. Everything else is a carrier, usually water or solvent, that evaporates.
A 100% solids epoxy has no carrier. The resin and hardener react and cure into a solid film, and none of it evaporates. In practice that means:
- Thicker coating per coat. You get the full film thickness you apply, so one coat does the work of several thin ones.
- Little to no solvent odor or VOCs. There is no solvent to off-gas while it cures.
- More durable. A thick, dense film resists hot tires, chemicals and abrasion far better than a thin one.
B-707 High Build Epoxy, the base coat in our floor systems, is 100% solids.
