Finished white epoxy floor in a lounge

How Long Does the Epoxy Floor Smell Take to Go Away?

Most of the smell comes from solvents, so it varies a lot by product.

  • 100% solids epoxy like B-707 contains no solvent, so the odor is mild and fades as it cures.
  • Water-based primers and topcoats are low odor.
  • Solvent-based urethanes have a strong odor that usually takes one to three days to clear with good ventilation.

Staying safe while it cures

Ventilate the space with open doors and fans. Keep solvent products away from open flames, pilot lights, furnaces, water heaters and cigarettes. Wear gloves, eye protection and, for solvent products, a respirator rated for organic vapors. Our safety glasses and gloves cover the basics.

Some states restrict solvent-based coatings. Check the product page before you order.
